On Tuesday 25th November, Twyford’s musical community came together to share and celebrate the hard work that has taken place in our whole-school ensembles this term.  We enjoyed performances from all the choirs: our junior choirs in particular go from strength to strength, with over 80 students singing in Junior Choir’s performance of  ‘Zero to Hero’ from Hercules, and Junior Gospel Choir performed a Sister Act-inspired ‘Oh Happy Day’. Thanks to Mrs McGonigal and Ms Kyeremateng for their continued work in promoting singing with the lower school.  Continuing our gospel theme, once again we enjoyed the performance of ‘Sacred’, directed by Karen Gibson MBE, and Senior Gospel Choir’s performance of Kirk Franklin’s ‘Melodies from Heaven’.

Under the direction of Mr Yates, Senior Choir performed Haydn’s Insanae Vitae et Curae, accompanied by student string orchestra with huge energy, and Chamber Choir tackled Whitacre’s Lux Aurumque in an atmospheric performance.

Moving to the instrumental ensembles, the concert opened with Philharmonia conducted by Mr Hui performing ‘Vltava’ from Smetana’s ‘Ma Vlast’, telling the story of the Danube river, and Concert Band gave a riotous performance of music from the Pirates of the Caribbean films.  An enormous Junior Orchestra (with 13 percussionists!) performed a fun version of ‘Soul Bossa Nova’, and String Orchestra played music from Grieg’s Holberg Suite.  The concert ended on a high with Mr Bennett’s Big Band performing ‘Flight of the Foo Birds’.

Our musical activities do not rest now though; we are busy preparing for our end of term assemblies and carol services.

Please join us at our Carol Service at St Martin’s Church (Hale Gardens) on Tuesday 16th December at 6.30pm for lessons, carols and mince pies!
