On Wednesday, the Year 12 Music Students attended a Composition workshop at Chiswick School. The class have been working on composing music for different ensembles, and four students have written pieces for String Orchestra. During the day we heard the Nonesuch Orchestra rehearse and perform pieces written by students from Twyford and other schools. Feedback and guidance were given by performers and Tim Watts who is a celebrated composer and Professor at the Royal College of Music and University of Cambridge. The orchestra was conducted by Bill Carslake who gave students a great insight into the role of the conductor and how composers can make full use of the Orchestra. There were also opportunities for students to conduct the orchestra, and we had some brilliant rehearsals led by William, Jake, Jasper, Marouf, Thomas, and Aaron.
It was a great session, and it was brilliant to hear works written by our students performed by a live Orchestra.
All students got a great insight into how to develop their compositions and utilise a full orchestra. We will hear some of these works performed in concert in March.
