Last night we held our annual Ensembles Concert, which featured a large number of performances ranging from our whole-school groups: Junior Orchestra, Philharmonia, Concert Band, String Orchestra and the Twyford Big band, plus smaller chamber groups led by our fantastic peripatetic team. This included the Flute Choir, Clarinet Choir, Double Reed Ensemble, Saxophone Ensemble, Saxophone Quartet, Cello Ensemble, Year 8 String Quartet and the Guitar Ensemble.
The energy and enjoyment on stage was evident, with music highlighting a range of genres and styles: the Philharmonia performed Rimsky-Korsakov’s ‘Dance of the Tumblers’, the Concert Band tackled Philip Sparke’s showy ‘Merry-Go-Round’, Big Band’s ‘Little Brown Jug’ was worthy of Glenn Miller’s band – through to Guitar Ensemble’s ‘Smoke on the Water’, Double Reed’s interpretation of the ‘Postman Pat’ theme song, and Sax Ensemble’s energetic ‘Don’t Stop Believing’!
The performers ranged from Year 7 students who had been playing for just 6 months to 6th formers who have just passed their Diplomas and are off to Conservatoire in September. It was a wonderful example of the Twyford musical community coming together to celebrate our gifts and talents.
