Year 12 had their very first RE conference on Wednesday 12th November.
The event was a great success and gave students the opportunity to engage with challenging ethical and philosophical issues through a series of structured debates.
Working in form teams, students researched, prepared and presented arguments on a range of motions, demonstrating impressive critical thinking, collaboration and confidence.
Debates included:
- “This house would ban abortion in the UK.”
- “This house would ban the possession of nuclear weapons.”
- “This house believes assisted dying is a risk to society.”
- “This house would legalise the death penalty in the UK.”
- “This house believes activists are morally justified in breaking the law to fight inequality.”
- “This house believes the future of food must be plant-based.”
During the debates, students engaged respectfully with differing viewpoints, drawing on data, religious perspectives and contemporary case studies to support their positions.
Overall, the event showcased the maturity, enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity of our Year 12 cohort, and we look forward to the next RE conference.
